Writing a Sefer Torah

The Miraculous Sefer Torah

On the year of 1742 a plague had ravaged Mezibuz, the home town of the Baal Shem Tov, infecting countless people.
The community elders came to ask for help from the holy Baal Shem Tov . He expressed his inability to help. "Only the holy letters of the holy Torah can help you.  So", he added, "I advise you to write a Sefer Torah (the holy Torah scroll) with the participation of the entire community.
The Jewish residents immediately resolved to begin writing a Sefer Torah. The entire community participated in this holy project.
Indeed, the plague abated that very day; not another person fell ill.
Awed by the clear miracle, the community dubbed the scroll "The Miracle Sefer Torah"

The commandment of writing a Sefer torah

Writing a Sefer Torah Scroll Is an important Mitzvah (commandment). This is learned in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 31: "ועתה כתבו לכם את השירה הזאת ולמדה את בני ישראל" (Meaning - Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach thou it the children of Israel)
The Shulchan-Aruch writes, emphasizing the importance of this commandment: "It is a mitzvah for every Jewish person to write a Sefer Torah. Even if his fathers left him one, it is a Mitzvah to write one himself".
Whomever fulfils this mitzvah, it Is as if he received the torah from mount Sinai. (Menachot 30A)

How to fulfill the commandment

The mitzvah (commandment) can be held by participating and purchasing a letter in the Sefer Torah. The scribe (sofer stam) is then considered as if he is writing that specific letter for the buyer.

The blessing of purchasing a letter

Participating in a Sefer torah is an ancient and known Segula for cure and salvation.
Many purchase letters in a Sefer torah for their own salvation and for mercy from the Almighty
