Ohalei Tzadikim Association
In the late 80's, when the Iron Curtain fell and visitors started coming to Eastern Europe, they were astounded to discover the terrible state of the Jewish remnants in the area: synagogues were desecrated, graveyards were destroyed and same the harsh fate befell even the grave sites of many of the great Jewish Rabbis and Tzadikim.
Founding the Association
And so the Ohalei Tzadikim Association was founded by Rabbi Israel Meir Gabbai, in order to save the graveyards, to preserve the synagogues and to protect the glorious Jewish past.
Vast activity
Since then, the organization has renovated hundreds of graves, restored, cleaned and fenced dozens of graveyards, and established synagogues and hospitality homes close to the graves of the righteous. In addition, the organization finances security and lighting of everlasting candles on the graves. The Association acts today throughout the world, especially in Eastern Europe and Israel. It is funded by private donations only, and is supervised by a committee of Rabbis.
The the Baal Shem Tov's Campus
The Association had the merit of establishing the tomb on the grave of the Baal Shem Tov, next to which it activates the area of the "The Campus of the Baal Shem Tov" which includes sleeping residences, a synagogues, Mikveh, dining rooms etc. for the benefit of the visitors to the holy site.
After an effort of years, the Ohalei Tzadikim Association reconstructed and reactivated the ancient synagogue of the Baal Shem Tov, and now it is renovating the synagogue of the "Ohev Israel" from Apta, who was the Rabbi of Mezibuz.
